Description

NGC 2936 and NGC 2937 are a pair of interacting galaxies located in the constellation Hydra, more than 300 million light-years away from Earth. NGC 2936 is an irregular galaxy that looks like a penguin. NGC 2937 is an elliptical galaxy. NGC 2936 once had a flat spiral disk. Due to the gravitational disturbance of NGC 2937, the gas in the center of the galaxy was compressed when it encountered with NGC 2937. It appears as blue knots close to NGC 2937, which was originally located in the center of the galaxy. The red dust that was inside the center of the galaxy has been mostly thrown out due to the collision.
