Description

The eastern region of the Sea of Rains (Mare Imbrium) is one of the most interesting places to observe the lunar surface.

There is such a variety of landscapes and reliefs on this view that I used an annotated image so that everyone could identify the main formations.

The Archimedes crater is of course the best known of this panorama with its clear contours and tiered slopes, but a crater like Aristillus with its radiant system lets imagine the power of the impact of the meteor that formed it. Its enclosure is home to three mountains.

I also took the opportunity to mention two astronautic events, on the one hand the crash of the Soviet probe Luna 2 in September 1959 (the first spacecraft to come into contact with another celestial body) and the landing site of Apollo 15 (mission from 26 July 1971 to 7 August 1971).
