Description

Lots of images of this really cool supernova remnant lately.  I'm guessing because it's a newer target...only 10 astrobin images before 2020.  It's difficult...we love a challenge.  It's very faint and it's large at 98 LYs across and it's in the heart of the Milky Way with lots of dust and stars in the way.   I thought I'd give it a try from my B7 backyard but did not expect success...kind of a self dare.  I didn't see much except stars with first night of stacked subs.  Figured it just needed more time...piled up the nights...could be my longest integration time.  I'm certain that the resulting image is only possible because of the recent improves in narrowband filters and camera sensors.  Oh, and the new Pix processing tools.  In this image I reduced the stars using by Bill Blanshan's star reduction methods. I think I reduced the stars more than any other of my images hence the mouseover of full RGB stars.  So, I proved  to myself that we can do this from our backyards.  I think I’ll start processing from scratch sometime soon…try to use the Sii more than I did to bring out the shell more.
