Description

My first observation of NGC 5897 as on 7 May 2015 at the General Nathan Twining Observatory in New Mexico using as 12” Skywatcher Dobsonian: Low surface brightness, diffuse. Star hopped to HIV 44 and 25 Libre and then to 5897. Could clearly see it at 87x but there was insufficient contrast to see it at higher magnifications so did not discern much detail beyond "dim patch".

My second observation of NGC 5897 as on 27 July 2916 at the General Nathan Twining Observatory in New Mexico using as 12” Skywatcher Dobsonian: At 63x this globular cluster was a dim patch. At 87x it was just barely discernible.

I obtained the calibrated lights frames used to create the final image from Telescope Live. The frames were imaged by the CHI-1-CCD Telescope at the El Sauce Observatory.

Note: NGC 5897 is 170 LY in diameter.
