Description

I acquired a HyperStar for my C8 earlier this year.  Because of the unusually overcast spring and summer, I never really had much of an opportunity to set it up and dial-in the f/1.9 imaging process.  What few clear nights I experienced were allocated to my tried and true f/6.3 set-up.  However, this fall the endless string of overcast nights broke and I had 2-weeks of clear nights that I used to learn the Hyperstar.  I found one side benefit of the f/1.9 focal ratio is that I don't need to guide my Losmandy mount.  Between the seeing conditions, the camera resolution and the smooth tracking of the mount with PEC, I can successfully take 60s unguided exposures.  Of course polar alignment needs to be exact, but that's a breeze with NINA's 3-point Polar Alignment Plugin.
