Description

NGC 4437, discovered by John Herschel in 1828, is also identified as NGC 4517. It is a very active Sc spiral galaxy, slightly larger than our own. It is 15.9m light years away while NGC 4517A, discovered by William Herschel in 1784, is 32.7m ly away and is classified as an SBdm barred spiral. (ref: C2A)
