Description

The Milky Way is a rare sight in the densly populated state of Northrine-Westphalia but the Eifel National Park is a wonderful exception. It is the first Dark Sky Park in Germany certified by the IDA and the park management is constantly working to protect the night from light pollution. There is also an observatory near the International Platz Vogelsang managed by astronomer Harald Bardenhagen where one can book star walks and educational events.

This picture is a composite of two photographs, a 4 minute exposure of the foreground and 13 x 240" (F4, ISO 400) of the Milky Way. It was shot from a viewpoint fittingly named Schöne Aussicht (Nice View).
