Description

I shot this in 2022 and I played with the data a bit and couldn't get anything I was really happy with. I am not jumping up and down with excitement with this image but it is much better than previous processing attempts.
I foolishly captured a ton of Ha not realizing how much this object really has with RGB data with bits of reflection nebula and dust. I ended up processing just the RGB and tried using Ha as Lum but like most people find, strong Lum data with weak RGB data makes for very muted colors and cranking the saturation only creates noise and other headaches. So I ended up making one image RGB and another image HaGB (No R). I liked things about each but didn't really like either very much. I took them into PS and blended them. So the HaGB is at about 60% opacity as an overlay on the RGB data. Small bumps in contrast and a quick tweak in the color balance and I am left with an image that isn't too bad. Especially from a Bortle 9 with over 26 LED street lights in the parking lot across the street from me. My blue channel really looked like just a solid blue image.
