Description

I’ve been having a hell of a time trying to polar align my SA mount, wasting precious hours of clear sky. The guiding was way off and I just couldn’t figure out what was wrong, until I sat down and thought about it. I’d inverted the reticle in PSPro the App I use for aligning with Polaris! 🙄

I was pleased  to have another  run of clear nights, even if they coincide with a bright waning moon. I took the opportunity to run both my rigs together to capture NGC 6992 the eastern veil, a supernova remnant in Cygnus.

This image comprises 180s exposures using my UHC-L booster filter, taken over two nights. Processing has been bit of a nightmare, I failed to align the camera correctly between sessions and ended up with framing artefacts; I have tried to process these out, resulting in significant clipping of the image. Nevertheless I’m satisfied to have been able to produce something with a largely manual setup… what would I be like with something more complex!

Title: A not half bad bat

Description: Same processing, with just 19 x 300s (95m) data from the first night. Poor framing, but the seeing was so much better

Title: Binned, cropped and sharpened

Description: I have had some success binning data from my Altair 183 OSC to boost SNR without too much loss in detail. In this instance I think the extra SNR has allowed me to pull out and sharpen more detail without excessive clipping. I've added a little more green to bring out that beautiful teal colour in the OIII.
