Description

When the clouds finally cleared in Arizona, I was headed out to Colorado to ski. Thanks to the program AnyDesk, I was able to operate the observatory remotely from the road with my iPad. My wife made sure everything was buttoned up in the mornings. I'm still nervous about operating remotely when no one is at home, but my wife has proven very trainable. This is one more way she "tolerates" my hobby.

I am finally around to processing. This is the first real deep data set I have taken with my Chroma LoGlow filter in the optical train for all subs. It did a marvelous job of eliminating the Phoenix skyglow. I have switched from using local normalization in WBPP to John Murphy's Normalized Scale gradient and I love the results. GraXpert was used to remove the final gradients from the stacked subs. It is really easy to use and I get to a good result faster than I can with DBE.

I am very impressed with the detail I was able to get out of the data with BlurXterminator. Also NoiseXterminator was used at the linear stage and and the end to control some chrominance noise that made it through processing. I used Vicent Peris' technique for removing Red broadband from the Ha image before adding it through a mask to the RGB, and I find that doing this step on starless images (you guessed it, StarXterminator) works really well. I did a minimal amount to additional sharpening of galactic details with MMT thanks to BlurXterminator's excellent work, and I spent my time playing around with GeneralizedHyperbolic Stretch to set the details of the final image.
