Description

Finally I managed to work during this days this pending project in the color version with the stacks made of L-Extreme and Triad Ultra filters both in the HDR and 2 drizzle  in DSS and Siril.

In the same way with the extraction made of Ha and [OIII], where it was combined for to obtain a SHO-type palette version that, due to the dominance of the stretch made in [OIII], resulted with quite a bluish gradient. But it is the one that produced the best definition of the Squid in the end.

It was quite a challenge to master the noise caused during the stretch of all the versions, as well as to achieve a color that pleased us that would reflect well the composition of both the Bat Nebula and the Squid Nebula.

The star base was obtained with the stack made with the L-Pro filter.

As an additional note, it was used the Grayscale Ha-[OIII] result as the luminance/luminosity in the final assembly of all layers.

This project took us two years to acquired data and had to wait almost another year to be processed! Haha

The 97% of data it was done in bortle 6-7, indeed the amount of integration and the filters helped to capture the elusive 'Squid' that frustrated us the first time when I processed the data obtained until then in July 2020 and it was hardly visible (only the base).

These wonderful nebulae inspired us into the astrophotography world when we saw them for the first time three years ago and we didn't quite understand what their shapes were due to, what they show and their 'evolution'.  We are very pleased have this extraordinary targets in our backpack.

Probably in the future we will try to complete the bottom part of the Bat Nebula for have all the structure in one image.
