Description

The Propeller Nebula, DWB111, is an emission nebula that lies in the constellation Cygnus. Not too much is known about this nebula's distance. The surrounding region is filled largely with emission filaments of Ha, OIII and SII.

The catalog is named after Dickel, Wendker and Bieritz, and is a list of optically visible HII regions near Cygnus-X, the X-ray black hole source near the head end of Cygnus the swan. Here's a link to their study with a cool map of Cygnus region.

The Propeller is situated near the middle-top of that chart and is surrounded by DWB 118 and 119. Also in the region of this figure are additional objects in the DWB, they are: DWB 107, 108, 110, 117, 119, 120, 122, 125, 126, 131, 132, 133, and 138. Another testament to the fact that Cygnus is a very busy region in the sky! Check out the annotated version for the locations of these other faint wisps.
