Description

This is a rarely imaged dark nebula located 5000 light years away in the constellation of Vulpecula at a declination of +28 degrees. The nebula is about 7 arc-minutes long in our apparent view, which corresponds to a span of 10 light years.

I like the seemingly endless density of colorful stars in this view, offset by the inky black dark nebula near the center of the image. The full resolution view is especially fun to examine. At the center of the dark nebula is a white ghostly reflection nebula (GN 19.43.3.01), which surrounds a variable star (QX Vul).

A portion of the HII emission region Sh2-92 is faintly seen in the lower corner of the image.
