Description

After months of cloudy skies I finally could capture the Pelican Nebula with my small rig. Three nights of which 2 had pretty good seeing.

So I needed to reduce my lights from about 90 to 65 due to number of stars and FWHM-values in order to keep the details of the Pelica Nebula up.

Two learnings I'd like to share:

1) Using the ASIair computer, finding and framing up a target is pretty easy if you use the plate solving feature and switch on notations after each preview.

2) I changed my post-processing: In Photoshop, I now create 2 desaturated layers of the stacked image and blend them over as "divide" and "multiply". Then I stretch the divide-layer using arcsin10 curve. This does not saturate the stars.

I repeat this a second time, if the noise level remains small. As soon as the arcsin10 produces too much noise, I apply a manual curve-stretch in order to balance the colour out.

Regards,

Sven
