Description

This object, nicknamed the Prawn Nebula, consists of bright emission nebulae set against a backdrop of dark dust clouds, located in the Scorpius constellation at a declination of -40 degrees. It is located about 6000 light years away.

Visible at center is the open star cluster Trumpler 24. The star cluster Collinder 316 is below right, and the dark nebula Barnard 48 is below left. The object is presented as a narrowband image using the SHO Hubble color pallet and RGB stars.

My favorite parts of this image are the dark dust clouds throughout this area of the sky and the bright blue nebulae region at center.
