Description

This large bright magnitude 5.9 open cluster, comprised of about 200 stars, is located 3200 light years away in the southern constellation of Monoceros at a declination of -8 degrees.

The beautiful cluster consists of well spaced blue-white stars sprinkled with yellow and orange giant stars, the brightest one being just below the image center.  Its nickname is "The Heart-Shaped Cluster", which is hard for me to see.
