Description

Sharpless 2-174 ( aka LBN 598, PK 120+18.1) is an ancient planetary nebula in Cepheus constellation. It is unusual in that the white dwarf normally found very near the center of the planetary nebula is off to the right in this case  (the blue star just below the bright white star near the top center of the blue gas). This asymmetry is due to the planetary nebula's interaction with the surrounding interstellar medium. Sharpless 2-174 is the northernmost object in the Sharpless catalogue.

H-O-O nebula with RGB stars.
