Description

So this is my first project with the "new" setup: A Mele mini-PC running NINA vs the ASIAir Plus. I ran into several "pilot error" issues due to the switch. First, the default value for camera offset was 10 as opposed to 50 in the ASIAir. This is probably a sensible default value, but not for the ASI1600MM. My noise floor was too low and therefore when I subtracted my library darks from my LRGB data I had lots of frames that had zero pixel values. I ended up reshooting my darks at offset 10, which cleared up the LRGB, which was all shot at 0 gain. Then the Hydrogen alpha problems started. I was seeing wicked walking noise in one frame, but not the other. The default dither value in NINA is 10 pixels. I upped this to 25 pixels to try to eliminate the fixed pattern noise from the 1600MM. I set up a run, and reshot the problem frame. However, after the six shots I validated before going to bed, the filter wheel stopped communicating with the rest of the system (I am looking into 2.4GHz wifi interference with USB, because apparently that is a real thing). Anyway, it turns out that since I shot the Ha at 139 gain, just shooting new darks was not sufficient. I had to reshoot new flats and dark flats. Once that was done, I properly calibrated out the fixed pattern noise.

This has definitely been a learning experience!

Now that my default values have been set properly, I might try to add more data. Or not. We have a tropical storm going through today and tomorrow, and it's supposed to rain for the next week or so.
