Description

Last year I decided I'd image Andromeda every year.  ( my 2022 version: "Andromeda again"...I'm really proud of that one but didn't even get a nod 😟...except for @Gary Imm  great comment!).  This galaxy is that amazing an object and also our neighbor.  Hey we're call to love our neighbors 😂 right?

This is purely an RGB image taken with a OSC camera from Bortle 7 skies and lots of moonlight.  To keep it "real" my processing was: GraXpert, BXT, SPCC, Bill's Linked Stretch, NXT, SXT, flat color boost with colorSaturation, and moved the black point with GHS, and a quick S curve or two.  I was testing the Antlia Triband RGB filter which has tighter bandwidth than the L-pro and may be help for B7 skies.  To say I'm pleased would be an understatement as this is a backyard warrior capture.   Dialoging with @Alan Brunelle on his recent journey to M31 was stimulating and enlightening.  (This site is truly a one of a kind!)   I know last year's version is a "prettier" image, but I believe this one is more truthful.  I have now decided that I'll image Andromeda more than once this year...looking forward to taking in dark skies with new moon and grab some Ha...for a "pretty" picture.  But to me, this is my benchmark...until maybe next year 😂!  -john
