Description

This image is of a region of the North America Nebula (NGC7000) in the constellation Cygnus called the Cygnus Wall. It is an area of intense star formation from the relatively dense concentration of hydrogen gas and dust. The formation is around 20 light years in length and lies at a distance of 1500 light years. While the light from the glowing hydrogen appears to define the nebulosity in the region, it's shape is actually more determined by the dense dark dust scattered across the area.
