Description

Described as "twisted", "warped", and "disturbed" NGC 3718 is definitely one of the most interesting galaxies I have imaged to date. It is located in the constellation Ursa Major, and is approximately 52 million light years away. After much study and a couple of reclassifications, it is now considered a spiral galaxy that has been disrupted by its neighboring galaxy, NGC 3729. The small group of galaxies to the right of NGC 3718 are the Hickson Compact Group 56, which consists of five interacting galaxies. The galaxies in the Hickson Compact Group 56 are not actually smaller, they are 425 million light years away.Integration time 16.5 hoursBlue 12600 secRed 12600 secGreen 12240 secLuminance 22200 sec
