Description

A little over 30 minutes of monochrome data on the first clear night in six weeks. I tried three different exposure lengths in an attempt to capture the full dynamic range of M42 but still ended up blowing out the core, will capture a bunch of 10-second exposures on the next clear, moonless night, to see if that will let me resolve the trapezium. There are some distorted star images at the top left of this frame (which was more obvious before the image was cropped), I believe this is because I am not quite at the right spacing for the FC-35 corrector and/or the focal plane is slightly tilted. In my opinion, the focuser on the FC100DZ is not as robust as it should be for astrophotography so it has probably let the focus tube twist just a bit, which is making the camera not quite square to the optics.
