Description

The Southern Cross and nearby Coalsack are iconic Southern Hemisphere objects.  Being circum polar from most of Australia, they are always visible in a clear sky.  The Coalsack is the largest dark nebula in our skies, and yet only appears in the Caldwell catalog, as C99.

This 2 panel mosaic was shot after the moon set from the Astronomical Society of Victoria's dark sky site about 2 hours from Melbourne.

Data were calibrated and stacked in Sequator, photomerged in Photoshop, and tweeked in Adobe Camera Raw.
