Description

The Moon from Al Sadeem Observatory

On February 26, 2023, we took a remarkable image of the Moon was captured at Al Sadeem Observatory in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This image is unique because it showcases the various minerals present on the lunar surface. The photograph was taken using a Canon Ra camera, a Meade 16" f/8 LX850 telescope, and a Skywatcher EQ8 pro mount.

The image reveals the Moon's mineral composition through its various colors. The colors represent the different minerals present on the lunar surface, such as ilmenite, which contains iron, titanium, and oxygen, mainly titanium. The orange and purple colors indicate regions relatively poor in titanium and iron, while the white and gray tones refer to areas of greater exposure to sunlight. This extraordinary image not only provides a visually stunning representation of the Moon's mineral composition but also serves as a testament to the advancements in astrophotography and the capabilities of the equipment used at Al Sadeem Observatory.
