Description

This object is a galaxy group located 200 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +20 degrees. The left large galaxy is NGC 7769, the right large galaxy is NGC 7771, and the satellite just above this galaxy is NGC 7770. The disks of each of the large galaxies span just over 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years. However, the tidal streams of each galaxy are up to three times this wide.

There is so much that I love about this object - the colors of each galaxy, the interesting core structures, the disturbed disks of each galaxy, the beautiful spiral arms, the detailed small galaxies that are scattered throughout the image, and of course the extended star streams. The star streams look like extensions of the galaxy arms, but they contain no young stars and so therefore are clearly tidal streams.

The supernova was discovered on May 26, 2019 and is the brightest star within the disk at 11 o'clock in the image.
