Description

This emission nebula,  located about 2,500 light-years from earth, is in a region of the sky rich in both small and large nebula.  It can be barely visible to the naked eye under dark sky conditions and was observed by the astronomer-musician William Herschel on October 24, 1786. It's a very large object, spanning some 140 light-years across.
