Description

In the Perseus molecular cloud, NGC1333 is the most active region of star formation. This bright reflection nebula was discovered in 1855 by Eduard Schönfeld in the western part of the Perseus molecular cloud. Besides ρ-Oph, NGC1333 is the second closest young protocluster ( Hirota et al. 2008 ).  NGC 1333 is illuminated by the central star BD +30o549. It is approximately 1000 light-years from us and about 15 light-years in diameter.
