Description

NGC6946, the Fireworks galaxy, collaboration with Marco Bastoni. FSQ106 and ASI2600 instrument, RGB-Ha technique, processing with Pixinsight. 4.5 hours per channel (18 hours total) In the wide-field image, large dust clouds surrounding the galaxy are seen everywhere; here, those are dust from our Galaxy (only a few tens of thousands of light years away) while NGC6946 is much further away, outside the Galaxy, at 25 million light years. The superimposition, therefore, is only perspective. Not far away, top right, the open cluster NGC6939 (also inside our Galaxy and 3800 light years away).
