Description

NGC 2024 Flame Nebula in the Orion Complex. 18 stacked 5 min frames at ISO 1600 ( 1.5 hr total exposure time).

The nebula is right next to Alnitak which is the farthest left star visible in Orion's belt. You can see Alnitak defraction spike in the right side of the photo. The nebula is caused by Alnitak shinning light on hydrogen dust clouds that then release the red orange photons seen in the photo. Also, you can see shock waves in the hydrogen dust in the upper right corner next to the smaller star.
