Description

Pleiades Remix...

I recently built a new PC primarily for astrophotography. I based it on a Ryzen 16 core CPU. Not only for a big boost in CPU power, but also so I could take advantage of tools that used extended instruction sets (my previous ancient CPU could not do this). Wow, what a difference!

Pleiades is one example. Its a challenge to bring out its faint nebulosity without adversely affecting star color. No problem now that I can run tools like StarXterminator. To create this image, I loaded my prior best image of Pleiades, duplicated the layer, created a starless layer with StarXterminator...and started stretching iteratively many times. By stretching repeatedly and adjusting the levels between stretches an amazing amount of latent detail was exposed! All without wonky stars.

I created a star mask using a luminosity mask plug-in (TK Luminosity Mask) and blended just the larger/brighter stars back into the image.

Im quite pleased with the resulting image.

DAMN! Now I'm going to have to reprocess a lot of past images!
