Description

Messier 16, is one of the best known bright emission nebulas in either hemisphere. This was imaged in the month of June from the southern hemisphere (Deep Sky West’s facility in Chile). While the original data covers a larger field of view, I have chosen to frame this image around the heart of this nebula, the star forming region known as the Pillars of Creation. Imaging with the narrowband filters covering the emission frequencies of Sulfur II, Hydrogen alpha and Oxygen III allowed the capture of fine details of the giant clouds of cosmic dust.
