Description

The supernova was discovered from a Japanese astronomer on may 20th. M101 is only 21 Mo Lj. distant, therefore this nova is the nearest in the past five years. Its as well the 2nd supernova found in M101 in the past 15 years. According NASA it should be a type II. The nova should likely brighten and remain visible for months.
The Nova is the bright star on the left arm a bit under the middle of the galaxy
