Description

Abell 85/LBN 576 is a super nova remnant about 10,000 light years away in the constellation Cassiopeia.      This is a faint target and required a lot of time to start seeing the details.

After a summer that featured a persistent marine layer, I finally lucked into a streak of clear nights although was fighting the moon.    This made capturing the O3 data tricky as I had to work around the glowing orb.    I finally ended up with over 40 hours of time on this project - a new personal record but the time was well spent.

I used a new workflow for this project taking advantage of the NB Color Mapper script in PI.   I mapped SI to a burn orange to try and highlight the edges of the tendrils in the nebula.  The SII signal was quite strong in this target.    For HA I mapped it to a red with a smidge of blue hue.   Finally left O3 mapped to a straight blue.

Description: Tried different workflow. More of my usual HOO approach. PI blend .4SI2+.6HA in Red, .1HA+.9O3 in green, O3 in blue. Boosted blue and SI in NB Normalization tool and tweaked from there.
