Description

This image was taken over five hours during the night of July 18-19, 2023 with an ASI2600mm Pro through an Astro Tech 80ED on an EQ6-R Pro.

The image comprises:

L:        22   x   180s
R:        20   x   180s
G:       20    x   180s
B:       20    x   180s

Total integration time was eight hours and six minutes. The image was processed in Pixinsight and tweaked in Photoshop.

July and August mark Monsoon Season here in Arizona, which drastically reduces the opportunities for imaging. Also, the high nighttime temperatures (it was 100 degrees when I started and 88 degrees outside when the session was finished) create additional complications. However, the clouds and haze parted over Pinal County on Tuesday night and I made the most of it. I would have liked to get more L data, but the weather forecast does not seem favorable to imaging, so I will live with what I have.

I had tried imaging the Iris over several nights last year, but wasn't happy with the results. This year's mini-marathon session was somewhat more successful, I think.
