Description

M31, the Great Andromeda Galaxy, is possibly the most photographed item in the night sky (apologies to M42!). It is visible under dark, moonless skies with the naked eye. Two of its largest satellite galaxies , M32 and M110, are clearly visible in this image. M31 is computed to be ~2.5 million light years away. It is very similar to our Milky Way galaxy in structure, but from a size standpoint., is approximately twice the size of the Milky Way.

This is an Ha-LRGB image. The HA data highlights several start forming regions of the galaxy along the outer rings. The original data was recorded over a three night span. In October 2023 I added 7+ hours of Ha to the image.
