Description

The Hercules globular cluster is made up of over 100,000 stars looking like a snowglobe. Visible with binoculars most easily in July. 25,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Hercules.

First observed by Edmond Halley in 1714. M13 was added by Charles Messier to his catalog in 1764 as a nebulous object. Not until 1779 was the cluster resolved as individual stars.

Also, notice in the top right is NGC 6207 a spiral galaxy 30 million light-years from earth.
