Description

NGC6543 is a pretty planetary nebula in the constellation Draco with a very large brightness difference between the core and the outer regions. The nebula is dominated by emissions in the OIII band with Ha and SII showing up only very dimly.

Due to the large brightness difference I took subs in narrowband with both 600 seconds (for the outer shell) and 60 seconds (for the core). Processing was very tricky and I ended up using Christoph Oehler's Substitute script in Pixinisight to blend the core into the image of the outer shell. To assign colors to the narrowband channels I used a modified Foraxx palette.
To show off the fine details in the core I also upscaled the actual image that has a pixel scale of 0.77 pixels/arcsecond by a massive factor of 4 and uploaded the resulting image (as an insert) in revision D and as a cropped version as revision E. I am very happy with the amount of detail that can be teased out of the core with my not very large aperture (115mm) refractor :-)
