Description

NGC6820 is a region of nebulosity in Vulpecula, in the general region of Cygnus.  It consists of the open cluster NGC6823, the large emission nebula Sh 2-86 and the small reflection nebula NGC6820.  We wanted to capture this because it in the area as the more popular nebulae in Cygnus, but is not imaged nearly as much.  We had earlier captured many frames in RGB and HO, but felt that S2 might bring out a bit more personality.  In the midst of all the data capture, we upgraded the mount and the camera so there was quite a long gap in the data collection from July to September.  I processed this in APP using the LRGBHSO palette, using the red filter data as the Luminosity (times 0.5).  This was then post-processed in Pixinsight to give the most optimal stretch and noise reduction.  A few minor polishes in Adobe Lightroom yielded this, which I think is a nice clean image.

Many thanks to Tim Triche for his sponsorship of this magnificent instrument, and thanks to Linda Thomas-Fowler, Chris Kagy, and Bob Traube for managing and coordinating the acquisition.
