Description

The Jellyfish Nebula is a supernova remnant about 5000 light years from Earth. It is estimated that the supernova event took pace around 30 000 years ago.

The image was processed as HSO, so that the green/yellow of the jellyfish is from the SII emissions while the red of the adjacent region indicates higher Ha emission.

The "Final" image is a complete reprocess; I really don't like the stars in the earlier image. I used the background and star calibrations in APP and these gave the green to yellow shift in the color of the Jellyfish but also brought out the faint red of the background. I reduced the stars slightly in Px and reduced the noise.

There is a brighter red object near the top of the red cloud above the Jellyfish that intrigues me. Initially I thought it was an artifact but it is there in the image taken at the same time with the Esprit.
