Description

North America Nebula (NGC 7000)One of the stars of the summer period. Everyone at one point or another has attempted the North America nebula. Its sheer size and coloration make it a focal point of the constellation Cygnus. By extension, the Pelican nebula next door to the North America is equally colorful and popular. This is an emission nebula that is roughly 10 times the size of the moon. However, it cannot be seen through a telescope due to its low surface brightness in normal bandwidth. In narrowband however, the nebula really shines. It gets its name by its resemblance with the continent of North America. At the south end of the nebula can be found the “cygnus wall” an area rich in star formation. The data was collected from my backyard last summer. I am looking forward to it again this summer:
