Description

NGC 1291 is an early-type barred galaxy (classified as SB0/a). In addition to the main bar that runs through its center, it also features a smaller nuclear bar and an outer ring. Within this ring, there is significant star formation activity, indicating that new stars are being formed in this region.

The galaxy has a very small inclination angle relative to our line of sight, approximately 12 degrees, which means we are essentially seeing it face-on.

It is located at a distance of approximately 9.7 megaparsecs (about 31.6 million light-years) from Earth.

So far, there is no evidence that the galaxy is undergoing any significant interaction with nearby galaxies."
