Description

RCW 75, also known as GUM 48A, is immersed in a sea of stars in the Southern constellation Centaurus. It lies at an approximate distance of 6,500 light-years from Earth and has a magnitude of +10. The emission nebula is powered by the young open cluster Stock 16 which is just to the left of the center of the frame. There is a considerable amount of dark nebulae also contained in this field. Interestingly, I have seen references to the central dark nebula referred to as "Elephant Trunk", so maybe it's the Southern Elephant Trunk nebula...if you zoom in on that part of the image you can see a small blueish reflection nebula at the end of the trunk.

This data was Taken at DSW-Chile with their TOA-150/FLI ML16200 and consists of 18.83 hours of LHRGB subs.

Anyway, hope ya like this object that I've never seen!

Tom
