Get ready to be wowed (hopefully

) by the wide field H-alpha and O-III image I just took of the Cygnus region. The NGC6888 Crescent Nebula shines brilliantly in the upper left, while the PN G75.5+1.7 Soap Bubble Nebula captivates just below. Look to the bottom center for the breathtaking SH2-104 nebula, and catch a glimpse of the Wolf-Rayet 134 ring in the upper right. Can you see the tiny Abell 69 planetary nebula in the bottom left corner? Throughout the image, you'll spot various dark nebulae, adding an air of mystery. This snapshot captures the celestial beauty of Cygnus region in all its vibrant, captivating glory.

Total integration time is just over 14 hours for H-alpha and O-III with RGB stars. I've tried to balance the strong hydrogen signal and get a little bit more oxygen in the final composition. The first version was a little bit too red for my taste.

Here you can see a short animation of my starting point with RGB stars and O-III plus H-alpha data being added along with final corrections. Hope you like it.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
