Description

The Bode Galaxy (M81) and Cigar Galaxy (M82) were both discovered by German astronomer Johann Bode in 1774.  Both galaxies are 12 million light years away in the constellation Ursa Major and the Cigar Galaxy experiences gravitational interactions with M81 causing it to have a very high rate of star formation.

Twelve hours of 60 second subs were collected over 5 consecutive nights with the new Apertura CarbonStar 150 Imaging Newtonian from my Bortle 6 back yard.  I'm a greenhorn with galaxies but am excited to start expanding my AP targets beyond emission nebula.

Thanks for looking!
