Description

I posted an Andromeda galaxy image last year but I am happier with this image that I captured over 3 moonless nights last week.  Our nearest galaxy (2.5 million ly away), it is the furthest object visible to the naked eye (though you can not be in a light polluted area to see it).  Every other celestial object you can see in the sky with your own eyes resides in out own Milky way.  Similarly, all the nebulas I have imaged also reside in our milky way.  In the 1920s Edwin Hubble analyzed the certainstars within the Andromeda galaxy to determine that it is indeed an island universe residing beyond the bounds of our Milky Way galaxy.  Prior to that, scientists believed that all of space resided in our own galaxy.  We now know there are billions of other galaxies in our universe.  BTW- In Greek mythology, Andromeda is the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, king and queen of ancient Ethiopia. She leads an exciting life…
