Description

It has been some time since I posted anything on here, and whilst the English always talk about the weather, unfortunately it is a massive factor in this hobby - of course. The other week I had to go away for three days, and I had to go away at precisely when there were three clear night where I live - what are the odds!? Three clear nights in the UK - never! I came back and the forecast said it will be ok for 2 more nights. It wasn't! So, I waited and waited... And then, surprise, surprise, my next clear night was when it was a full moon - why does that always happen?!   :  )   Now we have entered into a very rare patch of clear nights in a row, down here on the south coast, which I intend to make the best of. I tried imaging something with the full moon, but whilst I got something useable, I did not bother to post it.

Finally the moon has begun to sink away, but whilst it was at 80%, I imaged this famous object. The only trouble was that we had the Sahara desert sand caught up in the atmosphere, and the clouds looked orange! The cars were covered in some kind of mud. So, when it cleared , and I still think there is an element of this remaining, the skies, whilst clear, are not 'astronomically' clear. So, out of the 128 subs of this object at 2 minutes long each, and with the moon still playing a role, I would say I only got 25 really good subs. I could barely see Denebola, and even Regulus was a struggle, at the time. Oh well, the life of a nutcase amateur astronomer. The imaging time for this was 4 hours and 16 minutes, and I used 80 luminances and 48 RGBs for this. I intended to take another object at the time, but the skies were too bad, so I settled for this amazing group of galaxies. Thanks everyone...
