Description

M101, also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy, is a large spiral galaxy located in the constellation Ursa Major, approximately 21 million light-years away from Earth. It has a prominent central bulge surrounded by two main spiral arms that contain bright regions of star formation. M101 is one of the largest and brightest spiral galaxies visible from Earth, with a diameter of about 170,000 light-years and an estimated mass of 100 billion times that of the Sun. Its high level of activity, including numerous supernovae and intense star formation.
