Description

In 2020, I took several weeks of images of M31.  I noticed that some here (on Astrobin) were recently talking about Hubble's first Cepheid variable star (standard candle) and went back to check my images to see if I could see if it changes over the weeks I photographed the area.

I go lucky!  The image on 9/2/2020 was at or near the stars minimum.  I went back to check and found that the stars period is 31.4 days.  in 2010 a group of amateurs looked at the star to get the period.  That data was used to steer the Hubble to look at the star to honor its' namesake.  The minima was December 17th, 2010.

Some 113 periods later, I unintentionally shot M31 on 9/2/2020.

Thought that was neat!  Also, I cannot believe someone with a great scope, but basic photographs to use could find it.  On the historical images, I would have never seen it.  Neat to be able to find interesting things in old data.

The star is the upper left in the small triangle in the center of the image. It pretty much disappears in the frame from 9/2/2020.

Pictures were taken 8/9,9/2,12,14,15,16,18 2020.
