Description

NGC 5128 or Centaurus A is a giant lenticular (has a central bulge surrounded by a smooth disk of stars) galaxy in the constellation of Centaurus and is the closest galaxy of its kind to Earth. The galaxy which is about 10-16 million light-years away is bisected by a thick, dark, lane of dust. The center of the galaxy contains a supermassive black hole with a mass of 55 million solar masses.
