Description

Perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime event capturing a new supernova via my backyard telescope...from Bortle 6-7 skies, with a manual star tracker and small refractor.
---------
On 5/19 there was a 'new' supernova detected in one of the spiral arms of the Pinwheel Galaxy. This star went supernova approximately 21 million years ago and it has taken this long to finally become visible only a couple of days ago after traveling 21 million light years to reach Earth. Here are a of couple before and after photos of the Pinwheel Galaxy showing the new supernova, currently named SN-2023 IXF. It has become brighter each day since its discovery on the 19th, and should continue for many more weeks.
